Meet Anastasia Simakova, MCI Medical Coordinator

Anastasia’s journey into international healthcare did not begin with a role as a medical coordinator. She originally trained as a philologist.

In Barcelona, Anastasia began working as a medical interpreter in the International Department at Medical Center Teknon, helping Russian-speaking patients communicate with doctors and understand complex medical information. Since 2013, this work has become an important part of her professional life.

There is another part of Anastasia’s story that has profoundly shaped the way she approaches patients today.

At one point in her life, Anastasia herself was diagnosed with cancer. She underwent treatment and went into remission. As a result, she understands what it feels like to suddenly find yourself facing a serious diagnosis not only from a professional perspective, but from personal experience as well.

Anastasia knows only too well that, at such a time, it can be difficult to process what is happening. There may be confusion, a sense of chaos and countless questions. And that is precisely when it becomes especially important to have someone by your side who can help you make sense of the situation, offer support and guide you through the next steps.

Today at MCI, Anastasia helps families communicate with medical specialists in Spain, arrange second medical opinions and navigate the process of diagnosis and treatment.

She is someone who knows this journey from both sides — professionally and personally.
